Connect a Broadband With A PC

Step 1

Connect your broadband modem to the coaxial jack on the wall or plug your DSL modem into the phone jack. Ensure that the coaxial cable is screwed in tight and that the DSL line is completely inserted into the phone jack and locked into place.

Step 2

Plug your Ethernet cable into the network card of your computer. This is the connection on the rear of your computer that looks like a slightly oversized phone jack. Once it clicks into place, plug the other end of the cable into the back of the broadband modem.

Step 3

Open the "Start" menu on your computer by either clicking the "Start" button on the Desktop or by pressing the "Windows" key on the keyboard. Once the Start menu opens, click on the option for the "Control Panel." A new window will appear on your screen.

Step 4

From the options in the Control Panel, select the one for "Network and Sharing Center." Click on the option to "Connect to a network," which is in the upper left hand corner of the window.

Step 5

Enter in the network's details, such as the type of broadband connection, the name of your connection, and your username and password (if needed). You will be walked through the process step by step by the connection wizard in the computer's operating system.

Step 6

Restart your computer by clicking "Start," selecting the "right-arrow" key in the lower right hand corner of the Start menu, and selecting "Restart." Once the computer restarts, your broadband connection should be up and running.
